The Long Way Round

No one wants to go the long way round. Deep down we know what reality we were originally made for – wholeness – so when pain and sorrow and suffering strike, we all aim our prayers at speedy victory. We all want God to rescue quickly, heal instantly and restore immediately. And He can, but we fail to understand that God knows pain is but a moment to these fleeting bodies (sidebar…don’t get this twisted, He doesn’t cause pain and suffering, that’s simply the fallen world we live in, and don’t mix your western culture theology with biblical truth that a good Father would never allow us to go through hard things. God’s ultimate aim is your heart and He knows how to work all things together for your good). He knows what can be gained by walking near to Him often evades our desire when life is easy and happy and comfortable. You will never know the depths of the nearness of God if all He does is keep you happy.
. . .
Pain and brokenness drive us to our knees like nothing else does. Our desperate cries of rescue break something in us that needs broken open – our pride, self protection, self control, self-reliance. Our need is laid bare before Him.
So let our pain cause us to cry out, “God come near and walk with me through.” His promise was not for an easy life, but for His presence in and through. Don’t let the enemy whisper lies to you during your pain, rather lean into the heart of the Father and let Him hold you. You’ll find He knows you and what you need more than you think you do. And you’ll come to know Him in a way in those moments that you’d never trade.

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”” Psalms‬ ‭91:1-2‬

“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭26:3‬
