The Great Tension

All weekend I’ve had this picture in my head. The raging waters of #Snowqualmie falls flowing to depths below that I couldn’t see. How high the mist rose to soak my hair. How overwhelming the sight of the waves. How convicting the roar of the crash. How ragged the cliffs. How gripping the height. But oh…oh how beautiful! This is what drew us in. This is why we came. We couldn’t take one without the other. Great heights and great depths, merged together. They could not be separated except to lose the other completely. The great tension of life. Embracing one means embracing the other. Escaping one typically means escaping the other. Escape risk and you’ll surely see little beauty. Embrace beauty and risk will be required of you.

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
